Subject: Curious - XWing + Megaem + Real SBlaster
Ive got a 1 meg GUS, a normal SBlaster, and XWing.
Run Megaem with SB emulation OFF, and line in enabled, I get nice music and
digitised effects through the SBlaster, lovely.
Run Megaem with SB emulation ON, and I get music but no effects (with SB Address
and IRQ at GUS settings)
Run Megaem with SB emulation ON, with the Address and Irq set to the REAL SB's
values (so that they presumably clash with each other), and I get music AND
digitised effects through the GUS!
AND might I say, the digitised effects DO sound better & beefier through the
Megaem emulation than through the real SB itself!
MORAL OF THE STORY: If you have a co-existing SB & GUS, using the debug options
to set the Megaem SB Irq & Add to the real Sblaster might solve any problems
encountered with games that DONT let you specify Address & Irq.
Adrian
PS. GET THIS! Even the Sblaster test-sbc.exe program works with the digitised
part of megaem SB emulation!!! Stunning! SBOS totally chokes when you try and
run test-sbc.exe. Amazing program all round, megaem.

Yes it has come out in Canada and the boxes do state that it works with an
GUS. Check the box for Gr. Ult, Ult., and things like that (I work in a
computer store here in Vancouver and I can guarantee that GUS is listed). As
for problems getting it to work... get an older copy of DOS4GW.exe (look in
games like Syndicate and shadowcaster).

Subject: Megaem vs. Ultramid
Has anyone out there tried to run applications with MegaEm and Ultramid
separately to see which one has better sound? I used the Sierra Ultrasound
drivers /Ultramid for KQ6 and the sound is cool, but has anyone compared
that with the emulation provided by MegaEm? It could be logical to assume
that since the drivers and ultramid are geared specifically for GUS, it
would give the better sound, whereas MegaEm would be translating Roland
and SB sound to GUS. Any input on this matter?

Subject: MegaEm With Xwing
I don't know if these questions have been answered before, but I've been on
vacation. I have megaem 23b loaded and during voice sections in xwing, static
comes out instead of voices during most of the intro. I have 8 megs of memory,
a 1 meg gus, and 386max 7.0 Loaded. I have not had trouble like this before.
EMM is available. Also, I neeed to know where I can get pistol2.pat, I don't have it (have the 2.06 disks from gravis though.) Has anyone replaced
applause.pat yet?

Subject: Ultima7 and GUS Miles Drivers?
Hi all,
I am trying to get U7 to work with the Miles drivers for the
GUS. I did find the U7 specific .ADV files on epas and I've replaced
the ones that came with U7. I have never had a game to test the Miles
drivers thing. So this is my first try. After I choose SB in the
U7 install and run the game, it crashes and gives me an error like
failed to initialize soundcard or something like that. Now I am following
all the steps, (I do have ultramid loaded) what could be wrong? If
anyone has successfully accomplished this, could you please tell me what
I am doing wrong? Also could you suggest a good config.sys autoexec.bat
to go with the game? Because for me to be able to load ultramid and have
enough mem for U7, I need to do without a mouse and smartdrv. And one
last thing. I am currently using SBOS v2.06 (I think) and the sounds in
the game are pretty weired are there any switches to set for better perf-
ormance? Or should I try a different version of SBOS? All help is
greatly appreciated.
Mark.

BTW. GUS is the greatest thing. As an ex-Amiga owner who just bought a
486DX33, I did miss the sound. That is untill I found out about the GUS.
This card can play all my old MODs and more.

Subject: X-Wing and Mega-Em fix
I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of people who finally got
X-Wing and Mega-Em to work completely together.
PROBLEM: The MIDI music in X-Wing would cut out soon after a mission
is started.
SOLUTION: Turn off the Stealth Mode option in QEMM (the ST:M switch)
Happy GUSing!
